I met Branson Skinner this past summer at a friend’s rooftop birthday party. He told me about a fair trade fashion cooperative that he was starting for sustainable development in Ghana. It is called Of Rags. In all honesty, it was his work that inspired me to start this blog. The Of Rags initiative completely embodies the spirit of Fashion That Gives Back. Why?
- 40% of profit goes to the Of Rags Organization which funds humanitarian programs in Ghana that provide better care for disabled children
- Jobs are given to the refugees in Ghana—-they are the ones creating the beautiful garments that make Of Rags as special as it is
Tonight was the Of Rags Sustainable Fashion Tour at NYU’s Kimmel Center. Aside from being able to purchase Of Rags merchandise (I got a T-Shirt!!!), there was a wide selection of related organizations and a debut performance by Keeping Riley, a really awesome band.
The event was really special, and it was great to see all the people who came out to support Of Rags. So, be sure to check out the photos from the event. And trust me, there will be way more to come on Branson and Of Rags. Remember, good things come to those who wait!
